Welcome to the Auction Watchtower!

This corner of All Engelhard is dedicated to providing authentication services for current auction listings. If you are auctioning a piece and would like for it to be authenticated before the community, please contact us. Our goal is to provide authentication for current listings of suspected counterfeits and genuine examples as we deem appropriate. The authentication service is free of charge and allows collectors additional peace of mind while preserving the value of genuine examples within our community.

We present authentication on offerings only if we are quite confident in our assessment upon critical review of a listing, bearing in mind seller credibility, whenever applicable. All Engelhard encourages collectors to use this information as a point of reference only for suspect pieces and to make their own educated decisions based on all available information.

It is important to note that authentication of genuine examples is provided only upon the request of an auction seller. We will, however, take it upon ourselves to alert the community upon the arrival of any suspected counterfeit to market.

NOTE: eBay has repeatedly failed its community by refusing any action to eliminate these counterfeit pieces from their marketplace. There are many collectors that have exhausted efforts to report counterfeit pieces to eBay and eBay has taken no action. eBay has demonstrated a complete disregard for the protection of their members and have failed their responsibility to the collector community. Why do they claim to have a ‘fraud department’ and continue offering the option to ‘report’ items?

SCAM ALERT!  There has been an anonymous seller that hacks into other eBay accounts and lists the following auction, to include these pictures and specific wording.  This latest scam resulted in a BIN sale of $3900.00 which we have unfortunately witnessed before.  Two collectors were involved with this anonymous fraudster a few months ago and reported this method of theft to us.  If you see the attached pictures of description in a listing with a price too good to be true, please beware!

susan9753.l0z4t  –  All Engelhard suspects this is the kingpin, JB Campbell, back in business.  Seller location of Oklahoma and the variety of items under completed listings strongly suggest this is him.  Listed 3oz bar 49758 MFR 281615865483 then presented a serial absent 3oz counterfeit bar to a novice collector in attempt at private deal. This modus-operandi further confirms this is James Brian Campbell, back in the saddle, attempting to again swindle the community.  Also listing counterfeit bars on Craigslist, Tulsa, Oklahoma region.  Archived listing may be viewed at this PDF LINK.  BUYER BEWARE!

jewelryhiphop – Seller of counterfeit Engelhard bars in jewelry encrusted frames.  Seller was asked to disclose the bars as plated/counterfeits but refuses to provide this legally required disclosure.  Item 371240422750 example also available in ‘attractive’ gold plating, permanently archived at this PDF LINK. 

ddyer729 – Steven Dyer of Delmont, New Jersey, known peddler of counterfeit 1oz Johnson Matthey bars, counterfeit 1oz Northwest Territorial Mint bars, counterfeit 1oz Pan American Silver Corporation bars and counterfeit 1oz Buffalo rounds.  This seller has sold HUNDREDS of fake bars to eBay buyers and is a criminal predator.

joann586 - David DeGregory of Shelby Township, Michigan.  Purchased a confirmed counterfeit Engelhard ingot from an eBay seller, then ground off the ‘REPLICA’ stampings and attempted to resell the piece as authentic, auction item 331443659563, permanently archived at this PDF LINK.  The obverse and reverse are photo-archived at this LINK to demonstrate the removal of the reverse ‘REPLICA’ stamping, remnants of which remain visible.  

pakimann - As of August 5, 2014, seller has a suspected counterfeit 3oz ingot on group auction with two other genuine examples in 5oz and 10oz class. Seller has been informed his 3oz example is a highly suspect counterfeit example and remains unresponsive to inquiry, refusing to remove it from auction. 

redacuragsr – Boris Plotkin of California sells suspect counterfeit Engelhard ingots, most recent auction item 141441720260, permanently archived at this PDF LINK.

samwillbuyanything – Sells suspect counterfeit 3oz and 100g Engelhard ingots. Was notified of highly suspect counterfeit yet still re-listed eBay item number 121273134823 and more recently 100g auction 121276857442. Information received from BASF Legal and Marketing confirms this seller’s email address was used to apply for the Engelhard trademark under the name Sepehr “Sam” Rabbani of 11041 Santa Monica Boulevard, Suite 411 of Los Angeles, CA, 90025-3523. The collector community should pause and question as to why a known seller of suspect counterfeit pieces has applied for an “Intent To Use” Engelhard trademark for “Ingots of Precious Metals” under International Class Code 014 and United States Class Codes 002, 027, 028 and 050.

taos5djl - Sources and sells suspect counterfeit Engelhard ingots, all known examples trace to this seller. Curious as to why this seller has decent eBay feedback at present? uncle-mike – Sells suspect counterfeit [plated/mills] Engelhard 10oz commercial bars. Refused to pull listing after repeated attempts from multiple members of the collector community.

bensonsemporium1517 – Seller’s actual name is Nigel Goldman AKA ‘Howard del Monte’ currently residing in Berkshire Village of Kintbury. Sells suspect counterfeit [plated/mills] Johnson Matthey and Engelhard commercial bars. Seller recently changed user name from amolamanera99. In a period of ninety days, this seller managed to get away with selling fifty nine JM 1 oz bars for a total price $1650 and during the same time he sold a total of sixty three Engelhard 10 oz bars for a total of $16,380 with a grand total of $18,030. eBay failed to eliminate this fraud after having been noticed in detail by several members.
