HOMESTAKE MINING COMPANY

ALL ENGELHARD is pleased to welcome visitors to our Homestake Mining Company Definitive Page. The Homestake Mining Company took its name from its famous mine located in South Dakota, and was one of the world’s most prolific and longest operating gold mines, producing an estimated 39.8 million troy ounces of gold and 9 million troy ounces of silver during its 123 years of operation, from 1878 to 2001.  Homestake Mining Company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange longer than any other company.  Shares were traded on NYSE from 1879 until the company was delisted after being acquired by Canadian gold producer Barrick Gold Corporation in 2002.  Homestake Mining Company produced bullion ingots for retail sale only for a very short span, as noted below, and is one of very few refiners who dated their ingots along with a serial number.

While our focus is clearly Engelhard, we recognize that many Engelhard bullion collectors also collect Homestake Mining Company bars and ingots. As such, we appreciate the opportunity to present information on the specific varieties below and look forward to your thoughts and input!

Please note the serial numbers presented below are sourced from our archives.  As always, collectors are encouraged to provide us any additional numbers they have as we continue to fine tune our mintage estimates.  The examples defined below are genuine Homestake Mining Company ingots.

Be sure to visit our COUNTERFEIT Homestake Mining Company Page at this LINK to learn more about the recently produced counterfeit Homestake ingots.
