Welcome to the All Engelhard page for counterfeit bars and rounds. There have been a number of plated bars and rounds offered on eBay for several years now, and it is our goal to educate collectors, so that they may spot suspect bars and protect themselves. Despite several aggressive campaigns to have these listings removed, eBay has failed the collector community by not taking necessary action to keep the marketplace safe and protect its members. As a courtesy, we are also including counterfeit Johnson Matthey examples to keep the collector community further informed.
We encourage collectors to review the silver-plated bars and rounds offered on the AliExpress retail website as it offers a great opportunity to become familiar with many of these pieces. We believe that eBay sellers are sourcing these counterfeit bars and rounds from the AliExpress website, or a similar retailer, and representing them as genuine when they re-list them on eBay.
This page also offers Auction Archive links, when available, for further insight on these suspect pieces. All Engelhard is not in a position to provide an opinion as to the character or intent of any buyers or sellers associated with these Auction Archive links. Again, we will allow the community to draw its own conclusion.

NOTE: eBay has repeatedly failed its community by refusing any action to eliminate these counterfeit pieces from their marketplace. There are many collectors that have exhausted efforts to report counterfeit pieces to eBay and eBay has taken no action. eBay has demonstrated a complete disregard for the protection of their members and have failed their responsibility to the collector community. Why do they claim to have a ‘fraud department’ and continue offering the option to ‘report’ items?

10oz Engelhard P Series Ingot | This counterfeit exampled was observed on eBay auction July 11, 2014 and subsequently removed by the seller after members of the collector community expressed concerns of authenticity. This example is the first we have observed of this variety and is a relatively miserable reproduction attempt. The bar appears to be fabricated of a base metal and does not appear to be silver. The overall shape of the ingot appears correct though the reverse demonstrates a poured method of production whereas genuine examples of this variety have a flat, machined finish. The font and hallmark are very poorly produced as is the casting edge along the perimeter of the obverse. Further, the example weighs a full 1/2oz over proper weight as can be seen in the seller picture. All Engelhard does not believe this seller, easypawnshop, was aware that this example was counterfeit, and, it must be noted, that this seller promptly removed the listing after suspicions were brought to attention. | easypawnshop |
