1900 - 1st Davis Cup Match - Boston, Mass.

The first Davis Cup match was played at Londwood Cricket Club, Boston, Mass. in 1900. The United States defeated the British Isles, 5-0.

Competition is open to men's teams throughout the world and the annual challenge round matches are played in the country of the defending champion.

Dwight F. Davis of the United States put the cup up for play between England and the United States. The competition soon became open to teams of all nations.

Engelhard produced the Commemorative Sports Series of bars in 1980, in mintage of 5000 sets.
