This page contains our current information on odd-sized Engelhard commercial bars and the most exclusive Legacy Ingots. Engelhard’s most desirable Legacy Ingots are the early production odd weight class ingots illustrated below. You will see below how rudimentary and varied the stamping methods were in these early examples and it is this raw and classic appeal that many collectors today find so alluring. But only until recently these ultra rare ingots were considered “junk” bars, and melted and scrapped in haste, and quantity! The mintage estimates below estimate actual production numbers, however, actual surviving examples are likely a small fraction of this number.
Please see our 7oz and 16.075oz Counterfeit Registry pages for additional information.
Additionally, we would like to present a very attractive 3oz example of recent production by Royal Coins below. One of our founding members acquired this example and we are impressed with the craftsmanship of these ingots, job well done! We are including additional detail commentary of these pieces, as provided by Royal Coins management: “These Royal Hard bars were a tribute to the world famous Engelhard 3oz poured bar. The serial number is our coin shop zip code here in Houston, TX. all bars were released with a Certificate of Authenticity. The first run of poured the RoyalCoins/FFC Texas are stamped further apart and the second run are stamped closer together. A very low mintage of only 53 were made and that includes the prototype and two bars for the creators to have. These were poured around June 1, 2020 by the world famous pour artist C.J. Lewis, aka: FFC_TEXAS who now goes by Ragnarok Metals, located in Texas.”
Bars on this page range in size from as small as 5 grams to as large as 1000 troy ounces! All varieties defined on this page are considered ‘uncommon’ or ‘rare’ and regarded as highly desirable for collectors and enthusiasts.

2oz | Mid Hallmark | Bull Logo | [999+] [2.000] [Bull Hallmark in Elongated Octagon] [Serial Number] | Cast Finish | The high serial number is misleading, given the rarity of this ingot. Many, but not all, Engelhard serial numbers have a two digit prefix which we speculate is indicative of production run. Ingot 353059 sold via eBay auction on January 9, 2017 for $5,125.01. The previous 2015 auction for this ingot at $5,000.00 was so historic it prompted a release by Marketwired, which may be found at this LINK. | 353059 353229 353231 | <50 MINTAGE

3oz | Mid Hallmark | [3.000] [999+] [Hallmark in Elongated Octagon] [Serial Number] | Cast Finish | 3rd series 3oz ingot with ’15’ serial prefix designation, approximate size 40mm x 22mm. The reverse of ingot 15781 includes stamped initials J.J.P. The reverse of ingots 15811 and 15812 include stamped initials P.E.M. We have seen these initial stampings in other weight class and variety, and believe they were either applied at time of production for an Engelhard employee, or post produciton for clients of private investment or banking firms. | 15487 15738 15781 15811 15812 15789

3oz | Mid Hallmark | [3.000] [999+] [Hallmark in Elongated Octagon] [Serial Number] [MFR Designation] | Cast Finish | 5th series with ‘MFR’ [Metals Fabrication & Refining] designation. It is important to note that ‘MFR’ is not a serial number suffix as some collectors may claim. The 100oz class examples confirm this as their serial number and ‘MFR’ designation are stamped on opposed corners of the ingot. Ingot 47319 MFR sold on eBay on February 6, 2023 for $2,000.00. | 38112 ‘MFR’ 47255 ‘MFR’ 49444 ‘MFR’ 49850 ‘MFR’ 53948 ‘MFR’ 63832 ‘MFR’ 74099 ‘MFR’ 74133 ‘MFR’ | [Included in <1,500 mintage estimate above]

3oz | Mid Hallmark | [3.000] [999+] [Custom ‘UNITED’ Hallmark] [Serial Number] | Cast Finish | 5th series 3oz ingot in United Refining & Smelting counterstamp variation. Ingot 08239 sold privately on April 1, 2017 for $2,500.00. Ingot 08163 sold privately on August 20, 2017 for $2,911.24. Ingot 08192 sold on MinEx on 5/14/23 for $4455. 3oz | Mid Hallmark | [3.000] [999+] [Hallmark in Elongated Octagon] | Cast Finish | 5th series 3oz ingot in serial absent variation. An example sold on March 3, 2017 privately for $3,000.00. | N/A
3oz | Mid Hallmark | [3.000] [999+] [Hallmark in Elongated Octagon] [Serial Number] | Cast Finish | 6th series 3oz ingot, taller hallmark design and slight variation of serial font. Some examples within this series demonstrate serial font of earlier series ingots, above. The ‘1’ will include a horizontal bottom ‘platform’ line, a curved top ‘3’ vs. straight top on earlier examples. The ‘2’ includes curvature where it meets bottom left corner vs. earlier production counterparts. These serial font variations are not contingent upon order of number assignment, as demonstrated in the pictures. Ingots 32001 and 32002 sold privately on March 15, 2017 for $500.00 each. | 30133 32510 34058 34982 35139
3oz | Mid Hallmark | [3.000] [999+] [Hallmark in Elongated Octagon] [Serial Number] | Cast Finish | 6th series 3oz ingot with serial stamp prefix anomaly. We believe the serial number errors on these pieces resulted from the bottom half of the letter ‘X’ that was used as a filler for the lead position on the rotary stamp. This leading filler ‘X’ slipped out of position just enough to leave an impression of the bottom half of the letter. This theory is confirmed in the middle picture of 10oz bar 11948, listed on the 10oz Definitive page, where the bottom half of the same ‘8’ that was stamped on previous pieces had slipped back into the same position as the leading ‘X’ number to its left. Some examples, such as the bottom one pictured, demonstrate an odd but vague ‘number shaped’ prefix similar to the similar 25oz class. | 30186 30852 30918 30920 31174
3oz | Mid Hallmark | [Custom ‘MMI’ Hallmark] [999 + FINE] [Serial Number] | Cast Finish | 6th series 3oz ingot in Monetary Metals International [MMI] counterstamp variation. Originally issued in velvet lined presentation box, pictured. Also produced in 3oz and 10oz weight class. Interestingly, these pieces were produced for clients and demonstrate highly polished sides and reverse with custom engraving. The polishing process resulted in slight alteration of weight class on this example. Originally a 3oz weight class, ingot 30148 weighs 86.2g, or 2.77oz.
