Mocatta & Goldsmid was among the original five principal gold bullion traders that performed the first London gold price fix in 1919. Hambros Bank acquired the firm in 1957 and it became Mocatta & Goldsmid, Ltd.
Standard Chartered Bank of England assumed control of the firm in 1973 and renamed it Mocatta Commercial. Finally, the firm is known today as Scotia-Mocatta after the most recent acquisition of the firm in 1997, performed by Scotiabank.
These kilo variety of Engelhard England bars were produced in the early 1970’s. It is important to note that not all Engelhard England kilo variety demonstrate the Mocatta & Goldsmid counterstamp. We’ve noted it is more often seen than not.
