1869 - 1st Intercollegiate Football Game - Princeton vs. Rutgers
The first intercollegiate football gane was played in New Brunswick, New Jersey November 6, 1869 between Rutgers and Princeton. Rutgers won, 6 to 4. (The following weekend, the two teams played again, and this time Princeton won 8 to 0.)
In these early days of football, the game was a modification of the game of soccer. Football, as it is known today, started with the introduction of rugby in a series of games between Harvard and McGill University in 1874. Tule changes quickly followed and eventually lead to the modern American game called football.
Engelhard produced the Commemorative Sports Series of bars in 1976, in mintage of 5000 sets.
